Oh my god I can't believe it, we've never been this far away from home......

Greetings from Fiji blog fans. We're now officially as far away from home as you can get without leaving the planet.

We're staying in a very isolated backpacker resort on the main island of Viti Levu, and it's excellent. We've met a builder called Kev from London, a Scottish guy called Grant, and a couple of other guys (Gemma and Ben) who have just started their travels in Fiji. It's nice to have a few English people to hang out with so far from home!

Yesterday I had the great honour of test-piloting the 'home-made' new water flume into the swimming pool here, which is awesome. We spent most the day chilling by the pool (it's REALLY hot here, Hawaii is freezing in comparison!) and 'testing' out the flume (head first, feet first, standing up, two-up, you get the idea....) and rounded off the day with a few 'Fiji Bitters' as the sun set.

Tomorrow we're off on a boat trip to 'Robinson Crusoe' island, to do a bit of fishing and snorkelling. It's a hard life here, it really is. Our tans are coming on nicely, and our bodies are probably relieved to be away from the fast-food temptations of the 'States. We're going to hang around this resort for a few more days, then maybe try and find somewhere else to stay for a few days, but probably away from the cities as this pesky military coup looks ever likely. We've been told by the locals that the coups don't really affect this side of the island, and apart from a few soldiers at the airport, we probably won't see any of it. Here's hoping they're right!

We've been really slack and not taken any pics in Fiji so far, but we'll get some more soon. Watch this space!

-Si
